What Are Explorers?
The Exploring program is a career orientation program. Exploring
posts are sponsored bybusinesses offering interested young adults the
opportunity to investigate career opportunities before committing
to a chosen profession.
Who is eligible?
The Exploring program is open to all young adults who are at least 14
years of age and are not yet 21 years of age, live in or around the City of
Warren and have no criminal record. Parental approval is required for
all persons under 18 years of age. All members must apply and be
registered as Explorers with BSA (parent organization) Once accepted,
all participants must agree to abide by and obey the code and bylaws
of the Warren Police Explorers – Gentian Marku Post.
What does it involve?
The City of Warren Police Explorers meet select Monday’s from 6pm to
8pm at the Warren Police Department Headquarters. The Police Advisors
give instructional and hands on classes on the day to day duties and
responsibilities of a Police Officer. Some of the classes are:
- CPR
- CRIMINAL LAW
- POLICE PROCEDURES
- DOMESTIC DISPUTES
- TRAFFIC STOPS
- ARREST PROCEDURES
- FIREARMS ORIENTATION
- BUILDING SEARCHES
- HOSTAGE NEGOTIATION
- CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION
Post members participate in various city functions such as Police Memorial
Service, Warren City Fair and other City of Warren Parks and Recreation
functions. Uniforms are required for Explorers and fundraising can be done
to help offset the cost. Department Ride-Along program for Explorers who
have met minimum training criteria and have an exemplary attendance
and participation records. Post Community Policing Explorer Unit with
Post Police Mountain Bikes Post Color Guard Unit who performs functions
at various city memorials and civic events.
